Vacation in New Mexico

We just got back this past Tuesday (November 25) from a week long trip to New Mexico.  This time we decided to go to Santa Fe and Taos.  No skiing, just shopping and site seeing.  We drove and stopped in Amarillo the first night – that took us 8 1/2 hours!  Texas is the only state that takes forever to drive through!  We ate at this fabulous place called Kabuki Romanza, Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar.  It was SO good and you got so much good.  The next day, we drove in to Santa Fe, which is about a 4 hour drive from Amarillo.  We got to our accommodations, The Inn on the Alameda,  around 1:30, which was early but lucky enough, we got to check in.  This place was amazing!  We got a suite and it was as big as an apartment!  The living area had a nice, comfy chair and couch and Kiva fireplace, along with TV and wet bar.  The wood they burn there is Pinion Pine and to me, smells like incense.  The bathroom had two sinks (always nice to have) and then the bedroom was bigger than our bedroom,  had a seating area with another Kiva fireplace and TV.  Every afternoon between 4-5, there is a wine reception with complimentary wine and cheese.  It was very nice.  Breakfast there was fantastic.  You had choices of fritatta, stuffed croissants and on Saturday morning, quiche.  The food there was wonderful!  We ate dinner there one night and I wanted to eat rather light as one of the desserts on the menu is Margarita Key Lime Pie.  Believe me, it was scrumptious!

I have to say, that the shopping there disappointed me.  Not because there were no choices or lots of shops, but for me, it was very pricey.  I did manage to buy two tops, one was very unique.  But along one side of the square in this open area, there were several vendors, Native Americans who were selling jewelry, pottery and such.  I found some really nice earrings and pottery and that was very reasonable.  There no tables to display their items.  They sat on the ground and had blankets that they laid their items on.  I had a hard time deciding what I wanted as everything was so beautiful!

The Square

We also visited two amazing churches on/around the square in Santa Fe.  First, we went to Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.  The architecture and decor was stunning!

The Loretto is famous for its miraculous staircase.  Read more on this page The Loretto.  Masses are no longer held here and the church is small, but beautiful.  There is NO way I would have climbed that staircase with no bannisters!

Lots more to blog about, but this is getting too long.  Stay tuned for more!

More Dog-ness

Remi KNOWS when it is time to eat!  If she is up by our metal building, she will look towards the garage to see if I am coming out to feed.  Yesterday I happened to look out the window and guess she has trained the pups what to do too, as even they were looking towards the house.  Then, this morning, while I was exercising (it is hard taking pictures when you are bouncing around!), Colt and Winny were on the front porch and I captured this shot – what faces!!

Is it time yet, huh? huh?

Deer season started yesterday, November 1 .  I LOVE venison!  There was a time when I would NOT eat it, but now I love it.  We had chicken fried venison tonight along with some brown rice, gravy and a leftover biscuit I made on on Friday.  It was YUMMO!

Baby’s First

Greg went deer hunting this morning and got his first deer of the season.  Later he boiled the neck to get the meat off and we gave the bones to the dogs.  This is Colt and Winny’s first deer bones!  This morning, around 6:30 I was awakened by a sound and then heard growling.  I went out in the garage to see that Remi had some sort of skeleton piece that she was gnawing on (she later got sick from chewing on this).  Don’t know where she got it and you would think she would learn her lesson by not eating on stuff like this, but she won’t.  She eats anything in her path!
